It’s been quite a tough year for us all – but at A+ we have not been idle…
We are delighted to be able to show that our much anticipated ‘Cosy Timber Yurt Village’ and ‘Timber Courtyard’ are now in place and nearly ready to welcome guests.
This is exciting news as it will enable A+ to welcome over twice as many young people to benefit from our unique brand of Adventure Youthwork every year… and I hope you agree the buildings look fab - and visitors have commented that the aroma of fresh (sustainable) timber the moment you enter the yurt, is truly memorable and makes them feel even more welcoming.
Of course, the work that is put in behind the scenes often goes unnoticed – but the substantial groundworks (such as connecting across two fields to mains water supply, drainage and electrics) may never be seen but has been an essential element to this development. This has not been without it’s challenges – with the wettest October on record… but all this is now completed and we are very grateful to our primary builders Mobius (Co.STARS) and their main groundwork contractors Churngold (Co.STARS) for battling our shallow water-table and heavy clay soil to achieve this substantial work.
The only building that is not yet completed is the new WCs and Showers block, significantly redesigned to make them Covid-Safe. Work will be starting on this next week.
These challenges and the extended build time and other complications (including our first contractors going into receivership last year!) has resulted in increased costs – and we plan to approach our supporters for a final push to enable us to complete the new shower block and totally equip the build (fitting out the kitchens, furnishing and interior finishing of the new buildings) so it will be ready to welcome guests later in the summer.
Please watch this space for our final push to get the ‘Base Built’ – we’d be delighted if we can raise the final amount needed without having to approach grant making trusts, which can take months.
…and we hope you will be able to join us for our Celebration opening of the New Adventure Base in September (date to be announced)
