‘I wish I could live here!’ These words, from an 11 year old child who has had numerous foster care placements and changes of social workers, capture wonderfully so much that we are working for in our transformational youth work.
A+ has become for her a safe place, a fun place where she knows she is loved. This, in turn, is a huge encouragement to our team who are working to ‘reflect God’s light, His life and His love’ into the lives of every child and young person we work with...
We are so thankful for the many opportunities to touch lives on a daily basis and to see God’s love take root and begin to transform lives.
And there will be many more opportunities in the coming years to reach even more young people, referred to us by SEN and Pupil Referral Units. Now that we have registered as an AQA centre we are able to offer long-term educational programmes; planning with local primary and secondary schools is already underway. The aim is to work alongside children in our wonderful outdoor environment as part of their ongoing support network, providing an alternative pathway and the prospect of a better future… and of course every child and young person we work with is warmly invited to join us for our Total Adventure holidays.
The biggest challenge for us this coming year will not be finding enough young people to work with but securing the funding needed for assisted places
so that every young person who wants to join us is able to attend.
Jon Cox, our Exec Director has said: “money, or the lack of it, should never be the reason a young person does not join an A+ event . “
If you would like to see this exciting work unfold and touch the children who need it most we would value your support. A donation of £180 would enable an assisted place on a TA holiday this Summer.
What a journey it has been
It is time to say goodbye to a trusty friend…
Our faithful 9 seater ‘VW LT’ has been part of many of the great adventures here at A+ over the past 10 years: many early morning departures to our associate centres in Wales and Sussex to run school residentials; rounding up Silver & Gold DofE expeditions in Cannock Chase or Perth; delivering excited TA holiday campers to kayaking or biking sessions; collecting Witney to Westminster canoeists from the Southbank Centre or returning loads of freshly cleaned mountain bikes back to base after an adventure out on the trails – and the 5 ‘vignettes’ on the windscreen each speak of a return trip to Switzerland on our amazing TA Ski adventures… If vehicles could tell their story, we’d love to hear this one.
We have £10,000 raised towards a replacement vehicle but a further £3,000 would help ensure that we get a really good replacement, to deliver thousands of children to so many exciting adventures in the coming years, and safely home
Perhaps you would like to contribute to the £320 needed to display the A+ details and “Life to the Max JOHN 10:10” on the vehicle once it is ours?
Timber Lodges to add additional accommodation for the Adventure Base
What a thrill to know that our Adventure Base will become that special place of safety and encouragement where children receive long term support from A+ role models and a refuge from the storms of life, for thousands of children for many years to come.
We are excited that the ‘Hempcrete (winterised) Yurts’ have now arrived on site and we hope to have them up and operational in the spring… and we
are already receiving requests to stay from groups who will need even more space, so we are also looking at positioning 4 new timber lodges on site,
to provide additional accommodation for larger groups and an alternative space so we can welcome more than one group at a time to the Adventure Base.
These timber lodges will mean that we can accommodate up to 70 people on the Adventure Base throughout the year. Each timber lodge will cost
Our plan is to include 4 lodges, enabling us to welcome 30 more young people to the Adventure Base.
A very generous offer has been made to match each £250 donation made towards the timber lodges.
So every £250 donation through this appeal A+ will result in a £500 donation!
